At the age of 83, Ajit K. Modak, M.D. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Ajit was preceded in death by his parents, Jitindra and Kiran, his son, Amar, and his brother, Asit Modak. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of 56 years, and their children Anita (Mark) Modak-Truran and Raj (Mary Beth) Modak. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael (24), Chloe (13), Jacqueline (13) and Julien (9).
Ajit was a board-certified anesthesiologist who practiced medicine in Clinton from 1981 until the time of his retirement in 1996. He had hospital privileges at the then Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, which merged in 1989 to form Samaritan Health System. Seeking to escape cold snowy winters, Ajit and Jacqueline made their retirement home in Cedar Park, Texas, where they have lived for 20 years.
Ajit instilled his love of the pursuit of knowledge on his children. His daughter Anita is a partner at Butler Snow, LLP, in Nashville, TN where she represents drug and medical device companies in high profile litigation. His son Raj is a a practicing anesthesiologist and is the Division Head of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.
Ajit enjoyed spending time with family, cooking chicken curry in his chef hat and goggles (to protect his eyes), engaging in investment strategies and feeding stray cats in the neighborhood. Ajit will be remembered as a survivor, a great provider to his family, and an extraordinary husband and father. He is loved and missed. To quote Ajit's favorite saying, "No doubt about it!"
The memorial service will be held at Beck Funeral Home, 1700 East Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park, Texas on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. The visitation precedes the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
