Charles "Chuck" Evers, 69, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, January 25, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. A
Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at The Club at Rebecca Creek in
Spring Branch, Texas.
Charles H. Evers was born on December 19, 1948 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert and Inez (Stratton)
Evers. He grew up in Clinton, Iowa and graduated from Clinton High School in 1967.
Chuck was a proud member of the Kohawk Nation and graduated from Coe College in 1971. At Coe
College he was a standout athlete on the football team and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
After graduation Chuck taught history and coached football and basketball at Lyons Junior High School
from 1971-1973. He met the love of his life Sharon Jo Manning in 1979 and they were married on March
14, 1979 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and was an avid golfer. When he was not
dominating on the golf course he was rooting for his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!
Chuck spent 34 years in the newspaper industry before retiring in 2008. During his rewarding career in
the newspaper industry he worked for companies such as Harte Hanks, Chesapeake Publishing, Hearst
Newspapers, and Southern Newspapers.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon Evers of Canyon Lake, Texas; two sons: Charles H. Evers II of Austin,
Texas and Robert W. Marcontell of Beaumont, Texas; sister: Martha Eversoll of Clinton, Iowa; brother:
Chris Evers of Clinton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Inez Evers.
The family requests memorials be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
