Edith's Story

Text size

Edith L. Wiersema, 56, of Fulton, Illinois passed away surrounded by loved ones at Mercy North on March 22, 2018. In lieu of traditional services, Edith's wishes were to have a Celebration of Life, which will be held on April 21, 2018 at 2:00pm at King Pin's Saloon in Fulton, IL.
Edith was born on March 26, 1961 in Postville, Iowa to Edward and JoAnn (Green) Hagemeier. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and Clinton Community College. Edith will always be remembered for her strong work ethic, and for the last 18 year she was employed with WalMart as an Overnight Support Manager. She married Dennis Ottens, on July 27, 1985. Edith was wed to Kenyon Wiersema on June 26, 1999, and the two recently found a love for cruising on Outlaw Country Cruises. She took pride in gardening with her husband and grandchildren and her vegetables were known for miles around. Edith was admired for her baking and cooking and she always had a passion for sewing and crafting. She enjoyed riding on the back of her husband's Harley and camping and traveling were among her favorite pastimes. Though she battled metastatic breast cancer with strength and grace for four long years, she did not lose the fight; she passed unexpectedly. Edith was a devoted and proud grandmother, mother, wife, and friend; she touched the lives of many with her generosity, wisdom, and kind heart.
Edith will live on through all who knew her, especially her survivors; her husband; Kenyon Wiersema of Fulton, IL; her children Amanda Ottens of Madison, WI, Danielle (Patrick) Malone of Clinton, IA, Elizabeth Ottens of Davenport, IA, Thomas Ottens of Fulton, IL; her grandchildren Violet and Griffin Malone, her step-grandson, Alex Malone; and her siblings Linda Cook, Kevin (Julie) Hagemeier, Craig (Chris) Hagemeier, Edwin Hagemeier, Mark (Brenda) Hagemeier. Edith is reunited in Heaven with her parents Edward and JoAnn Hagemeier and her brothers Alan and Richard Hagemeier.
