Esther E. Smith, 85, of Erie, Illinois, died Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21st at the Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.
Esther was born February 7, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of James and Ethel (Heck) Boyjisky. She married Darrel F. Smith in May of 1954. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2017. Esther began working at the Clinton County Assessor's Office at the age of 18 and worked her way up to Chief Deputy Assessor, retiring in 2013. Esther and Darrell both loved dancing and running. She especially loved the BIX. She had many enjoyments, including bowling, traveling, taking cruises, crafts, sewing, and gardening. She also loved volunteering as an usher at the Adler Theater. Her family was very dear to her, especially her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her siblings, George Boyjisky, Mary Kane, Carol Blaylock, Michael Boyjisky; and nieces and nephews, Tim VanKampen, Brian VanKampen, Karen Jackson, Julie Degen, Stacy Hancock, Doug VanDamme, Gloria Lannan, Amber Boyjisky, Kimberly Boyjisky, and Kendra Boyjisky. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell; and siblings, James Boyjisky, Jr, Margaret McIntosh, David Boyjisky, and Jonathan Boyjisky.
