Evelyn J. OConnors, 95, of Camanche, passed away, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Mercy Living Center North.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Kooi, Dick Kooi, Steve Kooi, Barri Kooi, Brian Kooi, Tom Determann, and Tom Smith. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Evelyn Jane Wiebers was born on July 28, 1922 at home in Camanche, the daughter of Arnold and Dorothy (Watkins) Wiebers. She was a graduate of Clinton High School. She met her future husband, Leon OConnors over a pair of roller skates and they would later marry on July 31, 1945 at the First Baptist Church Camanche. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary prior to Leon passing away on February 9, 2016.
Evelyn was a school cook in Camanche for many years before retiring. She was co-owner of the OConnors Grocery Store in Camanche. She was a member of Royal Neighbors and also enjoyed getting together with her family during the monthly Birthday Club. enjoyed knitting, making homemade salsa, baking pies and making donuts with her mother for the family grocery store. She was well known with her family and friends for having a sharp memory when it came to remembering names, dates and family history. She had many stories to share but one of her favorites was the time she made a robot Valentine's Day box with her grandson Levi. Her great-grandkids were amazed at her unusual ability to write backwards.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter: Marsha Laurion of Clinton; three grandchildren: Melissa Goulden of DeWitt, Iowa, Christa Swanson of New York, Levi (Jessica) Laurion of Clinton; five great-grandchildren: Connor, Logan, and Gage Prucnal, and Braxton and Lily Laurion; and one great-great granddaughter: Jordyn Prucnal; her brother: Arnold (Clara) Wiebers, Jr. of Camanche, and two sisters: Shirley (Gene) Kooi and Joyce Hart both of Camanche, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a great-grandson: Jackson Rhys Laurion, one sister: Doris, brother: Richard, and two brother-in-laws: Bobby Hart and Ray Schultz.
