Fonda's Story

Fonda M. Schnack, 86, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday evening, May 29, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Fonda Mary Casad was born December 12, 1930, in Clinton at her grandmother Bentleys home to the late Rex and Mabel (Bentley) Casad of rural Grand Mound. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1949. Fonda married Guenther Schnack on November 18, 1951, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Fonda worked at Keiss Variety Store, Iowa Mutual Insurance Company and did catering for 10 years. She also worked as a CNA at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, American Home Health, Mercy Hospital in skilled care and was a mental health tech. Fonda also worked at the YWCA in childcare. She was a 4-H leader of the Little Fawns 4-H Club for 10 years.

She was a member and active volunteer at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt as well as Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton while residing there. Fonda loved family gatherings, playing cards, telling jokes, raising African Violets and reading. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will lovingly remember her as Gramma FaFa.
Surviving are children, Darla (Patrick) Brown of Camanche, Danita (Mark Mataya) Hythecker of DeWitt, Dawn (Deacon Jeff) Schuetzle of Clinton and David (Deb) Schnack of Milford, Nebraska; grandchildren, Troy (Denise) Hythecker, Eric (Bethany) Hythecker, Jed (Andi) Hythecker, Jeremy (Cindy) Hythecker, Sarah (Noah) Moran, Allison (Doug) Schultz, Ryan (Ashley Geltz) Schuetzle, Emily Schuetzle, Christina (Jeremy McIntyre) Graham and Zachary (Diana) Graham, Katie (Brandon) Wergin, Kolten Schnack and Klena Schnack; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Leah Hythecker, Eli, Noelle and Joyanna Hythecker, Hayden and Jack Hythecker, Dillon Daniels, Sophie and Lillie Schultz and Aliyah, Keyarah and Karli Graham, Hawk McIntyre and Creighton Wergin; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Fonda in death were a very special friend (former husband) Guenther Schnack; a daughter, Darcey Graham; a son-in-law, Mark Hythecker; a sister, Anita Dosland and brothers, Joseph, John, Charles and Robert in infancy.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Fondas son-in-law, Deacon Jeff Schuetzle and her grandson, Pastor Troy Hythecker officiating. Memorials are suggested to Westwing Place and Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
