Jan K. MacKenzie, 82, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Harbor Crest Home - Fulton, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory, immediately preceded by visitation starting at noon at the funeral home. Jan MacKenzie was born on February 4, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa. She attended Clinton public schools graduating Clinton High School in 1955. In 1969, she received an Associate Degree from Clinton Community College. In 1973, she earned her BA from Marycrest College majoring in Elementary Education and Library Science. From 1974-2002 she taught 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th grades in the Clinton parochial schools and served the last 15 years as high school librarian.

Jan had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving as lay reader, member of the altar guild, greeter, and Sunday School teacher. When younger, she played piano and participated in dance and gymnastics. She was the high school band majorette. She was as Brownie and Girl Scout Troupes Leader. In later years she enjoyed dancing, watching old movies, decorating her home and sitting for her grand dogs. Her passion was landscaping her yard and gardens.

Jan took great pride in being an original homeowner of the Candlelight Park neighborhood. Her family wishes to thank her many neighbors, Mercy Hospice and Good Samaritan Society for their kind deeds and caring in helping Jan live at home as long as possible.

Survivors include two daughters Dr. Renee (Larry Kelly) Lass of Bettendorf, Iowa and Cathy "Cathryn" Lass of Davenport, Iowa; sister Julie (Dan) Mulholland of Clinton, Iowa; nephew Jason Mulholland; nieces Tara Furgason, Angie Sullivan, and Adria Mulholland; six great nieces and nephews; and special cousin Nancy Olson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her dad T.J. Frey; mother and stepdad Florence and Van MacKenzie; a brother Bobby Frey in infancy; and former husband and classmate Donald "Don" A. Lass to whom she was married for 21 years.

Memorials can be made to a favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Clinton Trees Forever.

So very sorry of Jan's passing, We were classmates in Clinton High School. Jan and I usually corresponded at Christmas. We drove to Clinton for a few class reunions and we would pick Jan up to go with us,

I know she suffered so from "COPD.
