Joe Crann, 70, crossed the finish line to Heaven on Thursday, May 11, 2017 due to complications of Esophageal Cancer.
A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held at 5 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1102 NW Weigel Dr. in Ankeny. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Joseph Milton Crann, Jr. was born April 16, 1947, in Newark, New Jersey to Joseph, Sr. and Olivia Crann. Joe grew up in New Jersey and received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. Following graduation, Joe honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and earned the rank of SP5.
On September 6, 1980, Joe was united in marriage to Deborah Eileen Morehead, and have been blessed with three children, Stephanie, Stacey, and Stephen.
Joe was a man with a strong work ethic and took great pride in his career. It began when he took a position with Roadway Express in Kansas City, MO as a truck driver which soon turned into a foreman position in St. Louis, MO. He was then transferred to Clinton, Iowa where he served as a manager and salesman. When additional promotions came Joe's way, his family moved to Davenport where he was the Relay Manager, and later to Des Moines where he was the Terminal Manager until his retirement from Roadway Express.
Following his retirement from Roadway, Joe opened Central Freight Lines in Des Moines, and also worked at Lakeville Motor Express as a salesman and driver. Prior to his passing, Joe enjoyed working at Action Xpress and turned in his final report on Monday.
In his free time, Joe enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing, and gardening. He was an avid runner and took part in many races in the area. Most of all, Joe loved spending time with Debi, his children, and grandchildren.
Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Debi Crann; children, Stephanie (Andy) Roberge, Stacey (Tim) Carmel, and Steve (Kayla) Crann; grandchildren, Roman Roberge, Calla Roberge, Levi Swain, Joseph Crann, and Baby Crann due in July; and Joe's siblings, Geoff (Louise) Crann and Lea (Ken) Hrasdzira. He was preceded in death by his parents.
