John "Jack"'s Story
John Jack W. Voss, 82, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Mercy Living Center North.
A Funeral Mass will be 1:00pm, Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Irenaeus Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Tyler, Jared, Nolan, Evan, Michael, Ryan, Brandon, and Spencer Voss. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. John William Voss was born on October 28, 1934 in Grand Mound, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Clara (Diel) Voss. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He married Geraldine Marie Koch on November 17, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church Clinton; she died December 4, 2013.
Jack owned and operated Voss Brothers Plumbing since 1966.
Jack was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and especially enjoyed attending Cubs Spring Training in Arizona every year. He was thrilled to watch the Cubs win the World Series last fall. He enjoyed having the family together for Sunday dinners, Christmas in Chicago and the annual family trip to the Wisconsin Dells. He also enjoyed traveling to Chicago, Las Vegas, and Longboat Key. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in school activities, attending hundreds of sporting events over the years. He enjoyed feeding the neighborhood squirrels and cutting the grass on his riding lawn mower. He had a great sense of humor.
Jack is survived by his children: Debra (Perry Sullens) Weed of Clinton, Jeffrey (Laurie) Voss of Clinton, James (Christine) Voss of Clinton, Daniel (Sharon) Voss of Clinton, Dennis (Marcia) Voss of Eldridge, Iowa, and Jason (Ezio Aliatis) Voss of Clinton; 15 grandchildren: Jenny (Nate) Burkert, Katie (Troy) Harris, Tyler, Jared & Jordan Voss, Melissa (Nolan) Determan, Nolan & Evan Voss, Marlaina, Michael (Alli), & Mallory Voss, Ryan, Brandon (Kayla), Brianna, & Spencer Voss; 7 great-grandchildren: Jackson, Grahm, and Nora Burkert, Brynn &Bryce; Determan, Kashton Harris, and Grayson Voss; one brother: Joseph Voss of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother: George.
Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to the Jack and Gerry Voss Scholarship Fund. The Voss family would like to thank the staff of Bickford Cottage and Mercy Living Center North for their care and compassion to Jack.
