John A. Ruma, age 76, of Valley, NE, passed away on Sunday morning, June 17, 2017 at the Life Care Center in Elkhorn, NE.
John was born December 3, 1940 in Waverly, Iowa to Sam and Lucille (Kennedy) Ruma. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Penney (Christiansen) Ruma of Valley, daughters Cheryl (Allan) Kreikemeier of West Point, NE and Cynthia (William) Buettner of Bellevue, NE, and son William (Kim) Ruma of Dacula, GA, 9 grandchildren; Shelby Buettner, Katie Burger, Alyssa Hatten, Craig Buettner, Austin Kreikemeier, Miranda Kreikemeier, Emily Buettner, Lucy Ruma, and Abby Ruma, 3 great grandchildren; Henry, Noah, and Evelyn Burger, his sister LuAnn Farrell of Bryant, IA, and a brother Sam Robert (Janice) Ruma of East Moline, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Patrick Farrell.
John was self-employed for most of his adult life. He was an avid sports fan, and coached and sponsored many youth softball teams in Cedar Rapids, NE. John enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He played cards and golf every chance he got. In retirement, John spent the winter months in Sebring, Florida, enjoying the sunshine and the company of good friends.
A Celebration of Johns life will be held from 7-9 PM June 21, 2017 at the Pines Country Club in Valley, NE. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on June 22, 2017 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Valley, NE.
