Laura E. Fitzwater - Healless, 55, of Erie, IL, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Gibson - Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hope Lodge, Iowa City.
Laura was born June 20, 1963 in Morrison, IL, the daughter of Coy and Lois (Alls) Fitzwater. She graduated from Erie High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree from Arkansas State University and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa. Laura practiced as a Counselor at the State Prison in Newton, Iowa. She was forced to retire because of her battle with cancer.
Laura enjoyed playing sports in high school and was very passionate about following her nephew's football and basketball games at Camanche High School. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Laura loved traveling and made the claim that she visited all 50 states, Alaska being her favorite. She was a kind hearted person who went out of her way to care for others in need. She cherished her family and her beloved dog, Bella; as well as her 4 cats.
Surviving are her mother, Lois Fitzwater, Erie, IL; sisters, Cindy Wittek, Morrison, IL, Kathy (DuWayne) Ottens, Clinton, IA; nieces and nephew, Kimberly (Jason) Barten, Kristin (Brian) Turner, Calvin Ottens (Brittany Adams); great niece and great nephew, Leia and Logan Turner; special friend, Ron Kuehl; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
