Lawrence "Larry" Delbert Dierks, age 83, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Direct cremation took place.
Larry was born in Clinton on March 7, 1935, the son of Delbert and Wilhelmine "Billie" (Meyer) Dierks. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1953. He married Jo Ann Campell (Fuidge) in 1954 in Clinton; Fleda Sanders Cook in 1969 in Clinton; and later, Delores "Dee" James Paulson in 1990 in Las Vegas, NV.
As a proud Iowegian, Larry had two "home" towns - Clinton, IA and Park Rapids, MN. While living in Clinton, he worked at Clinton Engineering and Elmwood Dairy/Carnation, where he advanced from route driver to regional management. He was a 4-11 Auxiliary firefighter and an active member of Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton Bowling Association and Lyons Masonic Lodge.
In 1977 Larry ventured into entrepreneurship by becoming owner/operator of Pine Rest Resort in Park Rapids, MN; and later Crow Wing 6 Resort, in Nevis, MN. He resided in the Park Rapids, MN area for the remainder of his life, where he was also employed as a school bus driver and Hubbard County Deputy Sheriff until his retirement in 2000. He was a longtime member of the Shell Masonic Lodge of Park Rapids.
During his lifetime, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, woodworking, feeding wildlife, casino gambling, winter trips to Tucson, AZ and smoking Muriel Magnum cigars. He especially valued time spent with his wife Dee, his children and grandchildren near and far, his large extended family and friends, his two dogs, Mitzer and Sammy, and a cat named Shiloh.
Larry was a "good guy" with an easy smile, hearty laugh and fullness of life. He was dearly loved by his family - both those who had the gift of seeing him frequently, and those who only received such a blessing on intermittent visits.
Larry is survived by his wife Dee Dierks of Park Rapids, MN; two children, Roger (Susan) Dierks, and Tammy (Mark) Ebensberger, both of Clinton; two step children, Ron (Michael Nordstrom) Paulson of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Rhonda (Tony Eskola) Paulson of Park Rapids, MN; five grandchildren, Angie (Steve Richardson) Dierks, Christy (Chad) Brown, Andrew (Ashlie) Ebensberger, Matthew Ebensberger and Luke Eskola; 11 great grandchildren, Joshua, Johannah, Skylar, Carly, Rylie, Johnny, Brandon, Mariah, Tyler, Ashlynn and Logan; and 3 great-great grandchildren, Alona, Madison and Zayden - all of whom lovingly referred to him as "Grandpa 'Sota"; one sister, Karen (Bob) Burns, and two brothers, Jim (Diane) Dierks and Jerry (Karen) Dierks, all of Clinton; one aunt, Laverne Myers of Clinton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his lifelong friend, Chuck Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Dale, Danny and David.
