DeWitt, Iowa-Leroy Andresen, 94, died Friday evening, January 19, 2018, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living, Clinton.
Leroy Virtus Andresen was born July 11, 1923, at rural DeWitt to the late Virtus and Viola (Willer) Andresen. He was a graduate of Elvira High School. He married Bernette Brandenburg September 26, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri, and they were blessed with three children. He later married Margie Runyon February 4, 1966, in Dixon, Illinois. The couple farmed at rural DeWitt on their Century Farm until retirement. Leroy was an active farmer all of his life, and particularly enjoyed caring for horses and sheep.
He was a lifetime, steadfast and very active member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. He loved doing the food baskets, working the church supper and greeting the members. Leroy was the unofficial church historian whose presence will be greatly missed by all members. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, traveling, auctions, trail riding, horse shows and spending time with his beloved family.
Surviving are children, Linda (Claude) Kahley, Punta Gorda, Florida, Kristie (Dallas) Hoffman, Moline, Illinois, John (Maxine) Dailey, Orlando, Florida, Linda Edwards, Silvis, Illinois, Debra (Dennis) Krogman, Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Andresen, South Carolina; 22 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Andresen, DeWitt; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie on June 27, 2017; a son, Randy; a grandson, Jon Kahley and a sister-in-law, Madeline Andresen.
Visitation will be at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, in the church with the Rev. Jealaine Marple. Burial will follow at Elvira Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Elvira Zion Lutheran Church.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
