Paul A. Behrens, 63, of Clinton, passed away from a brain aneurysm, Sunday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics - Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be 11:00am, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Paul Alexander Behrens was born on June 19, 1954 in Clinton, the son of John and Shirley (Grumstrup) Behrens. He was a 1972 graduate of Clinton High School. He graduated Iowa State University where he was enrolled in the ROTC program. He earned a chemical engineering degree at Iowa State. He served in the United States Navy, serving three years on the submarine, Sculpin.
Paul was employed at Excelon for 31 years where he was a chemistry manager and later nuclear oversight, retiring in 2012. He enjoyed fly fishing and tied his own flies, he enjoyed nature photography especially birds, insects, and eagles at the lock and dam. He loved gardening and reading nonfiction.
Paul married Carol Jorgensen on October 25, 1986 in Clinton. In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his daughter: Dr. Sarah Behrens of Madison, Wisconsin; his brother: John "Steve" (Char) Behrens of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, his mother-in-law: Helen Jorgensen of Clinton and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one special father-in-law.
Paul was a quiet man that helped others and will be greatly missed by his family. Memorials can be made to the G.M. Solberg Wildlife Rescue and FAME (medical evangelism).
