Ruby E. Schubert, 91, of Clinton, Iowa, died peacefully Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Honoring her wishes, there will be a private service at a later date.
Ruby was born on September 23, 1926 to John and Rosene (Horst) Wall in Sabula, Iowa. She graduated from Sabula High School in 1943. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College and Marycrest College. She was an elementary school teacher at Elvira and Sabula. She was the first librarian at the Sabula Public Library. She was married to Earl Holman from 1946 until his death in 1970. She married Paul Schubert in 1977 and relocated to Clearwater, Florida for many years. They moved to Clinton prior to his death in 2006. She was an active volunteer with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and a Mercy Hospice volunteer for many years. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and their Ruth Circle.
Ruby will be missed by her sons Mark (Linda) Holman, Stephen (Robin) Holman and Thomas Holman as well as her stepchildren Donna (Gayland) DelSasso, Paul Schubert, Jr., and Sharon (Mike) Putts. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Beverly) Wall, her sisters Carmen Conard and Delores Solberg, her step-son-in-law William Summers, numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, sister Kathryn Johnson, brother Raymond Wall, daughter-in-law Diane Holman, and stepdaughter Marcia Summers.
The family would like to thank her neighbor Verna Fuller for her friendship and many kindnesses as well as the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the compassionate care she received there.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Rubys memory may wish to donate to Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
