Ruth Darline Hartman, age 90, of Chadwick, Illinois passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church, Chadwick. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association. Ruth was born December 28, 1926, in Eden Township, Clinton County, the daughter of John and Hedwig (Hansen) Hagberg. She attended Clinton Schools. She later earned her GED in her 60's from Clinton Community College. On August 10, 1947, Ruth married Charles Hartman in Clinton.
Ruth worked at the Clinton Garment Factory, and farmed on the family farm in Ideal, Illinois. She also worked as a Supermarket Sampler/Demonstrator for nine years. Ruth was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Chadwick. She was known for her leaf-design cookies during Thanksgiving, and enjoyed sewing, bread making, cooking, canning, gardening, quilting, ceramics, playing golf, watching Cubs games, and sewing gifts for her children and grandchildren.
Ruth will be dearly missed by three daughters, Lois Ebensberger of Aurora, Illinois, Nancy (Rick) Hale of Clinton, and Carol Wood of Mineral Point, Wisconsin; one son, James (Patricia) Hartman of Stratford, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and one sister, Wilma Thompson of Clinton. Ruth was preceded in death by one son, Gary; one son-in-law, Walt Wood; three sisters, Margaret Chase, Wanda Hagberg, Lois Hagberg; one brother, Marvin Hagberg; and one brother-in-law, LeRoy Thompson.
