Susan J. Mitchell age 66 of Fulton, IL, passed away Thursday Nov. 30, 2017 at her home. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Monday Dec. 4th at Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton. Visitation will be held Monday 9:00 AM until the service hour at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded. Susan was born on Sept. 25, 1951 in Clinton, the daughter of Deane and Betty (Waterman) Peters. She married Jon Mitchell on Nov. 20, 1971 in Clinton. Susan was Department Manager at the Target Store in Clinton for over 24 years, retiring in 2013.
Her previous jobs fostered her love and skills at crafts, which became a huge part of her life. She was the founding member of the Stich and Bitch Club, a close knit group of women who met monthly for over 30 years. She had a special love for all children and was a charter member of the Clinton Make-A-Wish Foundation, where she served on several committees. She enjoyed going to the casino, reading, gardening, game night at home, and her front porch time. She was a gifted seamstress, doing crafts, baking and generously donating her creations to family, friends, and charitable causes.
Susan is survived by her husband, Jon Mitchell of Fulton, IL; three children, Emily (Mark) Whalley of Clinton, Ann Mitchell of Clinton, and Matthew (Sarah) Mitchell of Fulton; her sisters, Margaret (Larry) Fogg of Clinton and Noreen Greatens of Madison, WI; her brothers, Joe Peters and Mark (Helen) Peters both of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Peters, a niece, Meghan, and a nephew, James.
