Wilfred M. Wilken, age 92, of Clinton, formerly of Goose Lake, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center North. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the services time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Bryant. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Wilfred and his twin sister, Wilma, were born at the Buech farmhouse in Clinton County on August 2, 1925, the children of Fred and Loretta (Buech) Wilken. He went to grade school in Bryant and graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1943. He worked for Delbert Mommsen on his farm until joining the U.S. Navy in 1945. He served with the Navy from 1945 to 1947. Following his time in the service he attended AIC in Davenport and upon graduation went to work for the Goose Lake Savings Bank. He was later employed as purchasing agent for International Paper retiring after 24 years.
Wilfred was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Preston, the Goose Lake Lions Club, Preston American Legion and had served as Treasurer of the Center Grove Cemetery Association for over 40 years. He was a hard worker and Master Gardener.
Wilfred is survived by his twin sister, Wilma (Ronald) Adrian of Cedar Falls; his dear friend, Rosalyn Mommsen of Clinton; two nieces, Janice Davis and Rhonda McCutcheon; a nephew, Burton Adrian and cousins, Billy Buech, Randy Meinert, Joel, Paul and Dale Schroeder and Steve, Bryan, Brent and Scott Buech. He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Phyllis Meinert. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
