Wolfgang "Wally"'s Story
Wolfgang Wally Kientopf age 87, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Alverno in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 on Friday, October 6, 2017 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Preston. Burial will take place in Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston. Friends and family are invited to share in Wallys life at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Wally was born on February 11, 1930 in Friedeburg, Germany, the son of Willi and Anna (Klatt) Kientopf. Wally attended school in Germany. Wally came to America following WWII, the Lutheran Church sponsored him. On March 12, 1955, Wally married the love of his life Darleen H. Meggers at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Preston. The celebrated 49 years of marriage before her passing in 2005.
Wally farmed and worked construction for many years in the Preston and Clinton area. He was a hard worker. During his retirement he drove semi with his wife. Wally was a member of the Laborers Union and St. Johns Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the CB Radio Club. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, polka music, riding motorcycles. Wally had his pilot license and owned a plane for a while.
Wally is survived by his three sons, Richard (Bonnie) Kientopf of Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, Eric (Brenda) Kientopf of Garretson, South Dakota, Arthur Kientopf of Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Carol (Joe) Watters of Clinton, Kathy (Christian) Wacker of Preston; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Ulirich Kienopf of Germany; sister, Briggette Feldner of Germany; two daughters-in-law, Kathleen and Susan. Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; son, Walter; two sisters, Rosemarie and Annlore (Jack) Spivey and a sister-in-law, Marga Kientopf.
