Billy's Story

Billy G. Hensley (Dean) age 81 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center North. Visitation will be from 3-7PM on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at River Church (823 S. 3rd St.) in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, July 20th at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Pallbearers will be Eric Hensley, Damon Dann, Mitchell Dann, Blaise Aadland, Brian Powell, Alex Cronk and Honorary as Andrew and Kevin Grass.

Billy was born in Stuart, KY on July 29, 1935, the son of Gay Farmer Thacker and Edward A. Hensley. He grew up and attended schools in Pikeville, KY. Billy married Bernice Lewis on October 18, 1954 in New Burn, NC. He worked for Allied Steel for 17 years in Clinton, in addition to working part time jobs to support his family. He moved his family to Texas from 1979-1988 and worked for Bethlehem Steel as a ship fitter and worked coastal jobs at various ship yards. He moved back to Clinton in 1988, where he worked with SWS (Superior Waveguide Services) which was owned by his late son, Ricky. Billy is known for owning and operating Hensley Disposal; which continues to operate under the direction of his two sons.

His love for his family and friends was very important to him. He always said to his wife, shes number 1 and every child they had together became his number 1 as well. He always said Love is forever and It is a pleasure, privilege and honor to have such a loving family. He adored and was very proud of his entire family.

Billy enjoyed attending River Church and he was President of Clinton Community Action Congress. Billy was very patriotic and an avid blood donor over 30 years. He enjoyed horseshoes, watching The Price is Right, boxing (Muhammad Ali), Kentucky basketball, Iowa Hawkeye Football, singing, yodeling, playing the guitar, harmonica and spending time with his dogs Missy and Rosie. Billy was very giving to others in need; he would drop everything and rush to their aide. Billy would often say Be kind to everyone because you never know how much your kindness will affect others. No words can describe how wonderful a person Billy was.

Billy is survived by seven children, Sharon (Leo Vaske) Dann-Vaske of Camanche, Shelia Hensley Louineau of Clinton, Sandra (Steve) Grass of Buna, TX, Don (Joan) Hensley of Clinton, Ronald (Theresa Best) Hensley of Clinton, Robert Hensley of Clinton and Danny Hensley of Vidor, TX, a daughter in law Christine Hensley of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a half-brother Paul Welch of Fort Wayne, IN; a half-sister Barbara Hensley McNulty of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister-in-law Eva Payne of Mottsville, NC and a best friend Sally. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bernice in 2007; a son Ricky in 2005; twins Billy and Carolyn in infancy; a brother Freeman and a half-brother James Smith.
