Gus was born October 27, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Williams) Sims. He was a 1964 graduate of Fulton High School. Gus served his County, four years, in the U.S. Army - a Vietnam War veteran. Gus was united in marriage to Barbara Miller on December 27, 1982 in Camanche, Iowa.

Gus was a truck driver for 16 years and for 9 years, along with his wife, owned and operated "Fulton Seamless Gutters". Later he owned and operated "Sims Maintenance" in Albany, Illinois.

Gus was a member of the Fulton American Legion, he was also a 32nd degree Mason, at the Clinton Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Clinton AMVETS. For many years, he "stood in" as Santa at the Fulton Bank. Gus was also active in the Junior Achievement program at the Fulton Middle School.

Gus loved socializing, especially with his breakfast club - friends he'd meet with every morning. He also enjoyed playing golf. Gus was a type of guy that if he didn't tease you, he didn't like you - he was a friend to everybody. Every 6 weeks he took a case of snack crackers to the "Chemo Suite" at the University of Iowa Hospitals. He would also volunteer for the Christmas dinner held at the Fulton American Legion Hall. He was a guy always on the go and always willing to help others out. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

Gus is survived by his wife Barbara of Albany, IL; two daughters - Lori Nichols of Clinton, IA and Ephony Horton of Clinton, IA; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers - Frank (Cheryl) Sargent of Fl and Frosty Erickson of DeWitt, IA with several nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends, as well as his fur baby Murray at home.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, one daughter - Josie Sims and one brother - Richard Sargent.
