Harold D. Asmussen Jr., 71, of Galesburg, died at 4:54 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.Harold was born December 24, 1945 in Chicago, the son of Harold E. and Catherine E. (Kunz) Asmussen. He married Neva Lou VanWinkle on November 6, 1982 in Monmouth. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2004. He later married Carol Sue (Naslund) Genisio on April 2, 2005 in Galesburg. She survives.He is also survived by a son, Joey Asmussen of Knoxville; stepchildren, Rodney (Stephanie) VanWinkle of Tennessee; Vicki (Myron) Miller and Joseph (Judy) Genisio, both of Galesburg, Henry (Angela) Genisio of Jerseyville, Judy (Steve) Duck of Saunemin, James (Cara) Genisio and Jennifer (Darren) Cox, both of Oneida, and KennethGenisio (Julie) of Kewanee; a brother, Jim (Sharon) Asmussen of Maquoketa, Iowa; four sisters, Sue (Mike) Ottens of Fulton, Trudy (Gerry) Murphy and Linda Morrison, both of Clinton, Iowa, and Dorothy (Jamie) Leininger of Fort Frances, Ontario; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two stepdaughters. Harold attended school in Preston, Iowa and moved to Galesburg in 1982. He worked as a crossing guard for the City of Galesburg for 10 years and in the housekeeping department for Marigold Nursing Home for four years. He was a founding member of Faith Bible Fellowship.Harold was a history buff. He enjoyed fishing and collecting John Deere Tractors.Visitation will be 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Rodney Miller officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial at a later date in Warren County Hope Cemetery.
