Helen's Story

Helen Marguerite Williams, 95, passed away Friday, June 16 at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 20th at 10:30 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, June 19th, from 6:00 8:00 PM at the Pape Funeral Home as well as an hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church. Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons, Robert Milroy, Patrick Arnold, Henry Arnold, Brandon Dopson, Benjamin Dopson, Ryan Milroy, Brevin Arnold and Trenton Arnold.

Marguerite La Croix was born December 10, 1921 in Lyons, Iowa to Lester and Blanche (Henemann) La Croix. She graduated from St. Marys High School in Marshalltown, Iowa and became a cosmetologist after graduating from Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids. She owned and operated Marguerites Beauty Shop from the basement of her home for many years. She later acquired her real estate license and worked for Johnson Realty.

She met her future husband at a skating rink on a night that girlfriends pinky swore theyd all stay together and not take rides home from a boy. Marguerite was the only one who kept that nights promise and then found herself with only one way homeRobert Williams. Marguerite and Bob were married on January 15, 1940. He passed away December 11, 1965.

Marguerite was a member of Prince of Peace Parish where she attended daily Mass as often as possible. She enjoyed Sudoku, reading, visiting with family and friends, History, crocheting, listening to Guy Lombardo and enthusiastically celebrating St. Patricks Day! She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, The Business and Professional Womens Association, and a member and former President of the local chapter of the National Hairdressers Association. She always signed cards, Love and Prayers, Marguerite.

Marguerite is survived by four children, Georgena (Gerald, deceased) Arnold, Ted (Jeanne) Williams, and twins Mary Jo (Steve) Dopson and Marla (James) Nagel; grandchildren Stacy (Robert) Milroy, Patrick Arnold, Henry (Stacey) Arnold, Brandon (Sarah) Dopson, Benjamin Dopson, Jamie Nagel, Jacquelyn Nagel and Jessica (Carlos) Cervantes; great grandchildren Ryan Milroy, Brevin, Trenton and Matraca Arnold and Rosalie Dopson; one niece Renee (Bill) Hogan and two nephews, John (Kathy) Reese and Phil La Croix. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob; a sister Carolyn Reese, and a brother Andy La Croix. Memorials may be left to Prince of Peace Catholic School or Mercy Hospice.
