Jacqueline Mousel Rutenbeck, age 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully with her family on Sunday at Mercy South Living Center after an extended illness. She was the last of three generations of family who operated the millinery and fashion business Beez-Mousel in Lyons, started by her grandmother, Martha Doran Beez, in 1884. Jackies mother, Bernadette Beez Mousel and father, Leroy Mousel, operated the store through World War II and the Depression years until 1957. Jackie and her husband, Harry Bud Rutenbeck, closed the business in 1993 after operating the store for 37 years, ending the 108 year reign of this well-known establishment.
Jackie was born August 31, 1930 in Lyons and attended grade school at St. Irenaeus and Our Lady of Angels Academy. She graduated from St. Marys High School in 1948. Following graduation she attended Webster University in Webster Grove, Mo where she excelled academically and was named in the Whos Who. She was awarded a scholarship at Laval University in Quebec, Canada after which she attended the University of Iowa where she majored in Business and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. There she met her husband, Bud and they were later married at Our Lady of the Mountains Church September 13, 1951 in Estes Park, Colorado.
Jackie was a member of P.E.O., The Alpha Delphian Society, the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Lyons Business and Professional Association, Clinton Country Club, and Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Through her long time involvement in community and social activities. She will be missed by many.
Jackie is survived by her husband, and her three children, Mark (Denise) Rutenbeck of Clinton, Carol (Ted) Lauder of Wheaton, IL and Susan (Bruce) Baldwin of Longmont, Co. Infant son, Eric John, preceded her in death. She had five grandchildren, Christie (Booker) Rutenbeck and Julianne Rutenbeck, John (Katie) Lauder, Jackie Lauder, and Grace Baldwin along with two great grandchildren, London and Leo Collins.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM Friday, July 14, 2017 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A funeral luncheon will follow the services in the parish hall. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7PM Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Private burial will take place at St. Irenaeus Catholic Cemetery.
