Kathe was born January 21, 1941 in Clinton, IA, to Leland and Mary Alice (Bush) Kane. She was educated in the Fulton grade schools and was a 1959 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. She was active in the Fulton High School Band, and was also a cheerleader. She was the queen of the Fulton Relay, and she and her future husband, John, were voted queen and king of their senior prom. On November 19, 1960 she married her high school sweetheart, John A. Vegter in Fulton. For the first few years of their marriage Kathe was employed at Fidelity Life in Fulton. Kathe was a devoted homemaker, which was the most important job to her, but she also helped with their farming business and family owned car washes. She enjoyed life to the fullest and traveled to many destinations with family and friends. She loved to golf and spend winters in Florida; go on shopping excursions, and cook and entertain for her family and friends. Most of all she loved being with her family and her five grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her husband, John; one daughter, Cynthia Ottens of Morrison; one son, Timothy (Jill) Vegter of Morrison; five grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Vegter, Matthew (Natalie) Vegter, Gregory Ottens, Nathan (Megan Houzenga) Ottens; four sisters, Mary Lee Cecil of Fulton, IL.
