Kenneth Gene Peters, Sr., 80, formerly of Camanche, passed away on August 29, 2017, in the loving presence of his wife and family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Edenton United Methodist Church, 225 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, 27932, at 2:00 on September 2nd, 2017.
Ken was born on August 26th, 1937, in Chicago Heights, IL to Ethel and Arthur Peters. A standout athlete, he graduated from Bloom High School in 1955 and received a Bachelors degree in Business from Marycrest College in 1989. He married Jean Hall on August 3rd, 1963. They moved to Edenton, North Carolina in 1999 after their retirement.
Ken was a faithful and devoted husband for 54 years to his wife Jean, and was a wonderful dad, papa, and grand-papa. He doted on his animals, cherished his books, and traveled to many air shows in his lifetime. Ken and Jean were frequent travelers and visited all 50 states during their years together. His keen intelligence, sarcastic wit, gentle guidance, stellar character, and loving embraces will be deeply missed.
Ken was also a proud American and a fierce supporter of the Armed Forces. He served his country in the Army from 1959 to 1962, including an active duty assignment to Battery A of the 3rd Missile Battalion (NIKE-HERCULES), 61st Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Loring AFB, Maine.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean, from Nevada, IA; his four children: Anne Battle (Terence), of Newport News, Laurie Tuman (Wesley), of Elizabeth City, Kenneth (Kip), Jr (Jodi), of Newton, IA, and Rebecca Clarke (Aaron), of Fuquay-Varina; fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, and a great-granddaughter.
