Ray J. Thomas, 94, of Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30am, Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm at the funeral home with a 5:00pm Rose Croix service. Burial will be at a later date at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris Eichmeier, Earl Studeman, Bill Clausen, Jerry Henry, Lowell Marsh, and Hubert Wise. Ray John Thomas was born on July 1, 1923 in Wheatland, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Anna (Hendricksen) Thomas. He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1946. He married Mabel A. Yopst on March 2, 1946 in Clinton; she died September 23, 1983.
Ray was employed at Dupont for 33 years in the finishing department, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge #363, Lyons Masonic Lodge, Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, and camping in his younger years.
Ray is survived by his son: Charles (Judy) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandsons: Matt (Diane) Thomas of Indianola, Iowa, and Brian (Raney) Thomas of North Liberty, Iowa; two great-grandchildren: Taylor Raye and Walker John Thomas; and his sister: Dorothy Roeder of Bozeman, Montana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and three sisters.
