Vivian Mae Barrent (Beebe) passed away on June 9, 2017, at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, IA.
Vivian was born December 16, 1921, in Ballantine, MT, to Reverend Ralph and Mae Beebe. She attended Primghar and Clarion High Schools, the University of Iowa and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at St. Ambrose College, Davenport, IA.
At the University of Iowa, Vivian met her husband, Dr. Milton E. Barrent and they were married in Clinton, IA, on May 27, 1952. She was an active member and participant at the First Congregational Church, Clinton Public Schools, Clinton County Medical Auxiliary, Jane Lamb and Mercy Hospital Auxiliaries, American Cancer Society and Clinton Concert Association. She was a faithful member of P.E.O. Chapter JW and the Sinoida Club. Vivian volunteered her time and talents as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader and she was involved in the PTA. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, brothers and sisters, Merrill Beebe, Harold Beebe, Marjorie Anderson and Mary Ann Beebe. She is survived by her children: Mollie Hart (Phil) of Eldridge, IA, Rebecca Komp (Mark) of Waukesha, WI, Elizabeth Carlson (John) of Lynn Center, IL, and Richard Barrent (Laura) of Clive, IA, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, 302 3rd Ave S, Clinton, IA, on June 17, 2017, from 10 -11 am immediately followed by a memorial service. A graveside service will be at the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. There will be a Family & Friends Gathering of Peace and Gratitude on June 30, 2017, from 2:30 4 pm (Pastoral led remembrance will begin at 3:30pm) at the Deerfield Retirement Community Event Center, 13731 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DMACC Foundation for the Vivian Mae Barrent Memorial Nursing Scholarship, 2006 South Ankeny Blvd, Bldg. 22, Ankeny, IA 50023; Heartland Presbyterian Church, 14300 Hickman Rd, Clive, IA 50325; or the Mayflower Community, 616 Broad St, Grinnell, IA 50112.
