Funeral services for Alvin S. Poffenberger, 86, of Eldridge, IA will be 10:30 AM Tuesday October 22, 2019 at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Pastor Scott Minteer will officiate. Visitation will precede funeral services from 9-10:30 AM. Burial will be at 2:30 PM at Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, IA with military honors presented by the Clinton AM Vets #28. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.

Mr. Poffenberger passed away peacefully on Thursday October 17th at Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge, IA. He was born in 1933 in Clinton, IA the son of Alvin W. and Mamie (Krogman)Poffenberger. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1951 and two days later reported to the United States Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. He continued to serve in the Navy though 1955 stationed on the USS Midway for much of his service. Shortly thereafter he began work as a telephone lineman for Northeastern Bell until his retirement in 1994. He focused most of his life on his two daughters, Carrie and Kelly. They spent many days at Scott County Park flying kites in the summers or sledding on homemade cardboard sleds in the winters. Alvin was an avid artist with a special talent for drawing WWII fighter planes. He had a love of bowling and was a member of many bowling leagues throughout his life. He also had a love for baseball and the Chicago Cubs. Alvin kept himself busy in retirement working for Steve's Auto Sales in McCausland, IA which he considered his second family.

Survivors include his daughters: Carrie Howard, Blue Grass, and Kelly Fromi, Davenport; grandchildren: Sydney and Cory Howard and Abbey and Tyler Fromi, and a sister, Carol Zaehringer, Clinton.
