David Gary Sadler

David Gary Sadler died peacefully with his family by his side on August 8, 2019. The youngest of six children, David was born on March 14, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Elsie (Sherman) and Edward Sadler. He joins his beloved son, Michael, brothers Robert, Dick, and Joel, and sisters Mary Lou (Killean) and Darlene (Wade) in eternal peace. David is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen, daughters Katie, Laura (Phil Ramsey) and Angela, son Cary, five grandchildren (Janna, Brandon, Andrew, Michael, and Patrick) and five great grandchildren (Logan, Dylan, Jacob, Grace and Jack).

He attended St. Ambrose College and earned a B.S. in Industrial Administration & Production from Kent State University in 1961. A highly accomplished business executive, David ran corporations, subsidiaries, and sales offices in 27 countries and 6 continents. He was the youngest executive in Ford Motor Companys history, held various management positions with New Holland, Allis Chalmers, Purolator, and White Motor, then went on to serve as VP of Manufacturing for Massey Ferguson, President of the Diversified and International Groups at International Harvester (Chicago), Chairman/CEO of Savin Corporation (Stamford, CT), Chairman/CEO of Rowe International (Grand Rapids, MI), Chairman/CEO of Merisel Inc. During his career he also consulted for Merrill Lynch Capital Partners, Stonington Partners, GE Capital, Chemical and Chase Manhattan Bank, among others. He served on several boards of directors.

Outside of work, David took great pride in the accomplishments of his children, and he enjoyed college football, fishing, traveling, politics and boxed Moscato. He embraced his strong faith throughout life, and looked forward to being reunited with his son, Michael, in Heaven. An intimate service for family and Davids close friends will be held to honor his life on Sunday, August 18, 1:00 p.m., at St. Robert of Newminster Parish in Ada, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Michael Sadler Foundation, P.O. Box 150335, Grand Rapids, MI 49515 or Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook St. #300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2Timothy 4:17
