Frederick W. Bartels, 84, of Bryant, Iowa, passed away at Unity Point-Trinity Hospital, Bettendorf, Iowa on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday, June 24, 2022 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Goose Lake, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 25, 2022 also at Ascension Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, at a later date.

Frederick William Bartels was born on October 7, 1937 to Fritz H.C. and Viola A.S. (Busch) Bartels on the family farm, Bryant, Iowa. He was a 1955 graduate of Elvira High School. He joined the Army in 1961, serving most of his time in Germany. He married Sylvia Kriebs on September 22, 1960.

Farming was his life, also doing custom baling. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and woodworking.

He is survived by his son, Dean (Cindy) Bartels of Charlotte, IA, daughters Sheryl (Dan) Moraetes of Bryant, IA, and Christine Bartels of Clinton, IA; grandchildren, Samuel and Abbigail Moraetes of Bryant, IA; as well as a special friend, Shirley Perry of Bettendorf, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl, Donald and Harlan, and sisters Ellen (Bartels) Behrens and Fern (Bartels) Randall.

Memorials can be directed to the wishes of the family or Ascension Lutheran Church.
