Clinton, Iowa - George E. Walker, age 72, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with his devoted wife, Kate, by his side, after a courageous battle with the rare blood cancer MDS. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held Nov. 1 from 2- 6 p.m. at the Clinton AMVETS Post 28. George was born on Feb. 8, 1953, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Robert and Helen Walker. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1972. George married, the love of his life, Kathleen Darling on July 4, 1998, in Clinton. Together they raise their daughter, Emily. He worked with the family business, A-Z Salvage, as a technician and also spent several years as a long-haul truck driver.
He was a proud member of the Clinton AMVETS Post 28.
George and Kate cherished spending time at their cabin on Beaver Island for over 40 years, enjoying hunting, fishing, gatherings by the firepit, and long hikes through the woods in search of mushrooms.
George loved to grill and was well known for his perfectly smoked ribs, chicken and salmon. He enjoyed socializing at Walker's Tavern and later found a second home at AMVETS Post 28, where he loved shooting pool, sharing a drink, and enjoying good conversation with friends. His humor, quick wit, and gift for storytelling brought laughter and warmth to everyone around him.
George is survived by his wife, Kate Walker of Clinton, Iowa; his step-daughter, Emily (Tracy) Carstensen of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; two brothers, Bob (Wanda) Walker and Arthur "Sam" Walker both of Clinton, Iowa; his sister, Flori Ann LaHue of Clinton, Iowa; and many nieces nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Therese.
