Janice Ann Hardersen was born December 9, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Else (Gore) Hardersen. She was a 1951 graduate of Clinton High School. She married William Hiltner in December 1954, they later divorced and he passed away in 2009. She married Louis Hurst December 1974; he preceded her in death in May, 2002.

Jan worked for Clinton Corn for many years doing secretarial work in the Engineering Department. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she volunteered assembling bulletins and seating church members for services. Volunteered at the hospital driving the "cube" car and knitting MANY prayer shawls, and Relay for Life. Jan dearly loved her many cats and dogs throughout her life. Most of all, Jan enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Wendy (Jerry) Saddoris of Clinton, Lana (Douglas) Thompson of Mechanicsville, Maryland, Jeffrey Hurst of Clinton and Jonathan Hurst of Carey, Ohio; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Noah Meeker) Mathiesen, Jacob (Christine Givens) Mathiesen, Michelle (James) Kjelland, Shane (Jen) Thompson and Ryan (Jenni) Thompson; and 11 great grandchildren: Grayson, Mady, Ashland, Jacob, Molly, Emily, Micah, Vivian, Emmett, Demi and Jameson.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society, Camp Courageous or to Zion Lutheran.

The family is planning a celebration of life for Jan at a later date.
