Rock Falls, Illinois - John V. Sheppard, 80 of Rock Falls died Wednesday February 16, 2022 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
He was born on January 26, 1942 in Clinton, IA the son of James and Helen (Cavanaugh) Sheppard and was a graduate of St. Mary High School. He married Diane P. Manning on May 5, 1962 at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton. John began his career in sales as a counter person at Sieg Auto Parts in Clinton; he moved on to the Sterling Sieg Store; then becoming Regional salesman for Sieg from their Peoria Store. After Sieg, he worked for a period as a salesman for Vock Distributing in Sterling; the Penray Auto parts and then retiring from IWI Auto Parts, Dubuque, IA. John was an advocate for Catholic schools. He had served as past president of Newman Booster; he was instrumental in beginning the Newman Nexus Calendar fund raiser; the Newman Block party; co coordinating and volunteering the former Newman Fest; and in establishing the TD Club at Newman. John had also been a football and basketball IHSA official for 25 years in the area. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and was a devoted Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; daughter Dawn (Josh) Willman of Sterling; sons: Kenneth Sheppard (Suzanne Schuler) of Hebron, VA and Scott Sheppard of Sarasota, FL; daughter in law Melissa Sheppard-Miller of Sterling; seven grandchildren: Jamie (Scott) Gladstone, Jessica Sheppard, J.D. (Megan) Sheppard, Tyler (Michal) Willman, Cooper Willman, Teresa Trump and Wyatt Sheppard; 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son John and great grandchild Blaiksley.
Visitation will be Monday February 21, 2022 from 9:30 - 11:30 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM with the Reverend Paul Lepinski and the Reverend Richard R. Kramer con-celebrating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by McDonald Funeral Homes.
Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Grade School or Newman Central Catholic High School.
