Charlotte, Iowa - Justin Robert Heiar, age 39, of Temecula, California, passed away April 20, 2025, at his home.
Justin was born June 7, 1985, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of William and Marilyn (Ostert) Heiar. He graduated from Northeast Community High School Goose Lake, Iowa, in May 2004. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was scheduled to retire in May 2025 after 20 years of distinguished service.
Areas of service include being deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Iwo Jima from June-December 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He completed Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard training in Quantico, Virginia, and was stationed at the American Embassies in Cyprus from 2007-2008, Nigeria from 2008-2009 and El Salvador from 2009-2010. During this period, he was promoted from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant, awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management. He was then assigned to Iwakuni, Japan, from 2010 to 2013 in charge of Quality Assurances and later Production Control. From October 2013 to 2020, he was assigned to MCAS Miramar in San Diego and promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in 2014. He was also deployed in 2018 for 4 months to Bahrain. From August 2020 to July 2023, he served at Fort Worth as the Senior Enlisted Advisory for the Marine Transport Squadron "Roadrunners" and was promoted to Master Sergeant in 2020.
Master Sergeant Heiar returned to San Diego in July 2023 assigned as the Maintenance Control Chief.
Justin's life was dedicated to the Marine Corps and he received many awards and decorations. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 3 bronze stars, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, and the Marine Security Guard Ribbon.
He married Kamryn Miller in 2020 and enjoyed spending time with his wife, stepson Austin Morales, their 2 dogs, family and friends in the backyard. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of beautiful furniture for their home.
Sadly, he is gone too soon. He will be dearly missed by his wife Kamryn and stepson Austin of Temecula, California, parents Bill and Marilyn, brother Jason (Jamie Hosek-Heiar), aunts Carolyn (Dave) Livingston, Rosalie Thomas (James Toby), Pamela (Dennis) Naeve, Cheryl (Eric) Schneck, Gwen Ostert, and numerous cousins. Justin is preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald and June Heiar and Robert and Glatha Ostert, aunts and uncles Larry and Gloria Heiar and Jim and Marilou Roling, and uncles John Ostert and Richard Thomas.
Graveside Services with military honors being conducted by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Rock Island National Cemetery; the procession will depart Snell-Zornig Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home with a brief prayer to conclude the visitation at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Stop Soldier Suicide-Dallas, Texas, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or Speak Out Against Suicide-Camanche, Iowa.
