Funeral services for Keith P. Schmidt, 89, of Eldridge, were held Monday, October 17, 2022 at Park View Lutheran Church, Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the North Scott FFA or Lutheran Hour Ministries.


Keith Paul Schmidt was born on January 4, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, a son of Harvey and Maleta (Martensen) Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Nancy Ellen Traver on August 15, 1954 at Elvira Lutheran Church, Elvira, Iowa. They have shared over 68 years of marriage and memories. Keith graduated with honors at Iowa State University in 1956 with a degree in Farm Operations and a minor in Agriculture Education.


Mr. Schmidt started the Vocational Agriculture program at North Scott High School in 1958, retiring in 1993, and continued to substitute teach in that district. Following his retirement, he worked for Midland Press, Liqui-Gro, and feed sales at Triple F and Hubbard Livestock. He was awarded an honorary membership in the Iowa Future Farmers of America.


Keith was a member of Park View Lutheran Church where he served as head elder and evangelism chair, participated in Lutheran Laymen's League, and served as president of Iowa District East. He was also a member of the Davenport Amateur Radio Club and served as president of the Military Amateur Radio Service where he was responsible for weather forecasts. Keith enjoyed driving his family on summer vacations with the goal of visiting every state in the U.S. He also enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities.


Those left to cherish Keith's memory are his wife, Nancy, Eldridge, children: Eric Schmidt, Littleton, Colorado, Lynn (Stephen) Dolan, Delafield, Wisconsin, and Melanie (David) McMurrin, Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren: Brendan Dolan (Kelsey), Kieran Dolan, Katheine Dolan, Amelia (Kurtis) Schutter, Elizabeth (Daniel) Rust, and Jessica McMurrin; and a great-grandson, Simon Schutter; sisters, Jean Holmstrom, Davenport, and Kay Harksen, Camanche.


Mr. Schmidt died Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Genesis East Hospital, Davenport following complications from surgery for an aortic aneurysm. He was preceded in death by his parents.
