Lois Ann Seger Obituary

Council Bluffs, Iowa - Lois Ann Elliott Seger was born in Kewanee, Illinois on January 4, 1933 to James Creighton Elliott and Grace Souder Elliott. Lois attended a one-room country school in Saxon, Illinois and graduated from Toulon High School in 1950. Lois attended Monmouth College and Western Michigan University, where she graduated cum laude in 1956. Lois earned a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1960.

Lois married Robert Morse Seger on September 25, 1956 in Elmira, Illinois. They lived in Port Huron and Rogers City, Michigan before moving to Clinton, Iowa in 1967. Lois was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, and was a founding member of a Women in Theology study group. Lois ran a small business called The Book Nook for several years, and was employed at the Gateway YWCA from 1983 to 2000. She helped establish the first domestic violence shelter in Clinton County, and was recognized by the Clinton Iowa YWCA as a Woman of Achievement in 1978. Lois was an avid reader who loved music, nature, and being with family.

In 2021, Lois moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she was able to enjoy many cultural events, holidays, and Sunday dinners with family before her death on January 7, 2026. In a manner typical of her generous spirit, Lois donated her body to the University of Iowa.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Robert and brother John. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Seger (Mesa, AZ), Janet Seger (Steve Pera, Omaha, NE) and Nancy Seger (Minneapolis, MN), and grandchildren Sophia and Eric Seger-Pera (Omaha, NE). She is also survived by her sisters Eunice Daniels (Kewanee, IL) and Alice (Bob) Griswold (Huntingdon, PA), sister-in-law Donna Elliott (Kewanee, IL) and many other extended family members. Those wishing to honor Lois' life are encouraged to make donations to Friends of the Library (https://clintonpubliclibrary.us/about/friends) or First United Presbyterian Church (http://www.1upc.org/) in Clinton, Iowa. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Photo © Lieferman Photography
