Mary was born August 1, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Bernice (Stahmer) Levetzow. She was a 1958 graduate of Miles High School.

Mary was united in marriage to Heinz Hehlke on August 9, 1958 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton - together for 66 years.
