Nolan "Buck" Franzen, age 77, of Clinton, IA, passed away Thursday October 10, 2019 at Bickford Senior Living in Clinton. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Burial in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Sabula, IA will occur following the service. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to share in Buck's life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established in Buck's name.

Buck was born December 31, 1941 in Canton, IA, the son of August "Butch" and Iola "Ollie" (Schmidt) Franzen. He attended Sabula schools, graduating from Sabula High School. In 1961 Buck married Claudia Hoyer. They celebrated 20 years of marriage before her untimely passing.

Buck spent most of his working years with Dupont as a machine operator. In his free time, he loved to hunt and fish, and when the seasons changed, snowmobiling became a favorite of his. When he wasn't experiencing the great outdoors, he could be found enjoying a good game of cards, or cheering on his Minnesota Vikings.

Buck will be dearly missed by his daughter, Shawn Cole of Sabula, IA; two sons, Scott Franzen of Sabula and Doug (Teena) Franzen of Sabula; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aleda "Ede" Lohmeier of Sabula, Sandy Jepsen of Sabula, and Lanelle "Neak" Doermann of Sabula.

Buck is preceded in death by his wife, Claudia; his parents Butch and Ollie; his three brothers, Terrill "Pete" Franzen, Lyndell "Bummy" Franzen, and Gaylen "Jiggs" Franzen; two sisters, Sharon Jess and Lynanne Metz; a grandson, Grant Franzen; and a son-in-law, John Cole.
