Fulton, IL - Pat Smaltz, 86, of Fulton, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

According to Pat's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, Illinois.

Pat was born July 30, 1939, in Glade, Kansas, to Otto George and Viola Wilhamina Elizabeth (Lohse) Stelljes. She was educated in the Glade, Kansas, grade schools and was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She later attended college in Hays, Kansas. Pat was first married to Sam Clegg in 1959. She then married Earl J. Smaltz on April 2, 1966, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They shared their lives for over 30 years before Earl's passing on November 21, 1996.

Pat worked for Nielsen Clearing House and PFC and later retired from Data Dimensions at the age of 80. After Earl's passing, her work became not only a source of purpose but also an important social outlet, and she cherished the relationships she formed with her coworkers.

Pat was a Sunday School teacher and a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, reading, and watching old westerns, especially John Wayne movies. An avid animal lover, she opened her home to many pets over the years and had a special fondness for dachshunds, particularly her beloved dog, Jackie. Above all, Pat devoted herself to her family. She loved unconditionally and always made sure those she cared about knew how much they meant to her. Her family was the light of her life, and she took great joy in supporting and encouraging them. Pat rarely put herself first, always placing the needs of her family before her own.

Survivors include four daughters, Deanna (Ronald) Bucklew of Waterloo, Illinois, Debra (Jeffrey Wisor) Swafford of Clinton, Iowa, Kim (Kirk) Seminoff of Wichita, Kansas, and Kristin (Kevin) Wright of Camanche, Iowa; one son, Donald (Katherine) Clegg of Spokane, Washington; seven grandchildren, Doug (Lindsey), Amy, Austin, Emily (Ben), Nicholas (Katelyn), Kendall, and Katie; and eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Willa, Kylie, Kadence, Gunnar, Michael, Brielle, and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; two sons, Kevin Smaltz and Mike Clegg; and her parents-in-law, Jacob and Mary Smaltz.
