Thomas J. Hansen

Events

Thomas J. Hansen (1947 -2019) entered eternal life on August 14, 2019. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Connie, with whom he shared 45 years. Also preceding him were his parents, Lloyd and Gertrude Hansen, and his brother, David. Tom fought cancer courageously for three years; but, in the end, God's will was that Tom rejoin his family in heaven.

After Tom's stint in the Air Force, he joined his Dad in the Hansen Sign Company, a fixture in the Clinton business community for many years. It was begun by his Grandfather, John Hansen, along with his Dad and his Uncle John. Tom, along with his brother, Joe, were co-owners of the business prior to selling it in 2010.

Several years ago when Tom decided he'd had enough of the Midwest winters, he and Connie purchased a home in Florida near Sarasota. There they enjoyed endless sunshine and the white sandy beaches. Tom was especially happy on the golf course - even though his score never made him ecstatic. They were great tour guides when family and friends visited.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Courtney, who lovingly cared for him during his illness, along with the amazing Hospice Team from Northern Illinois. His brother Joe of IA was with him on this journey by taking him back and forth to chemo therapy. Tom also leaves his grandson, Nicholas; two sisters in CA, Susan (Jack) McKenzie and Mary Recotta and his brother, Steve (DeRaye) in MO. Tom is also survived by his sister-in-law: Imelda Hansen of IL; six nieces and nephew: Melissa, Joanna, Jessica, Samantha, Alexandra and Johnny.

We continue to mourn his passing as he was one of the BEST, but our faith gives us the hope that he is enjoying the peace that his suffering earned him. Tom was cremated at the Snell Zornig Funeral Home in Clinton. There will be a celebration of a life well-lived at in November for his family and many friends.

The Hansen's were my neighbors growing up in the 60's and I would always swing on their swing set! I didn't know Tom very well back then, but my husband called him a very good friend. I got reacquainted with Tom, sitting in the Chemotherapy chair, as we were on the same Chemo schedule! He always had a smile on his face, and was such a positive person! I was very sad to hear of his passing, but knowing that he is up in Heaven with his parents, brother Dave and with Connie, gives me comfort in knowing that he is finally at Peace!

Sorry for your loss. I got to know Tom over the years in the weight room at the YMCA. Always enjoyed chatting with him. Later he stopped by my office to talk on a number of occasions. We talked about his daughter and his trips to Florida and things happening in Clinton.
